I’m in beautiful Laguna Beach getting new window treatments installed in the “Spa Home”, a vacation home I’m designing with special touches to make it a comfortable, relaxing getaway. It’s situated on a hillside, overlooking the ocean.
The window treatments are Duette® Honeycomb Shades from Hunter Douglas – room darkening (opaque) for the bedrooms and semi-opaque for the bathrooms and entry. We chose a two-tone colored fabric, which adds warmth, interest and coordinates with the home’s design scheme.
These Duette shades can be custom-selected in a variety of fabrics (over 300 to choose from), pleat sizes, colors and textures. Besides opaque and semi-opaque, there are also sheer and semi-sheer fabric options, so you’ll get exactly the right light control you need in a room. They also work well on a variety of window sizes and shapes, even odd ones, as you can see pictured here.
In addition, these shades feature a cordless lifting system, and excellent feature for ease of opening/closing (and child safety). This was the definite choice for this house, for a clean look – we didn’t want any cords hanging near the windows, obstructing the gorgeous view of the mountains, ocean or the tropics. To adjust the shades, you simply push the base up with your finger, or pull them back down from the base. They’re also very easy to clean, being dust-resistant.
