Dan Mackerman has been a full-time painter and sculptor for nearly 25 years. His career highlights include projects with: The Smithsonian Institute National Building Museum, Phipps Center for the Arts, Disney, Animal Planet Television, Prince’s Paisley Park Studio, Mayo Clinic and Children’s Hospital of Minneapolis.
Dan’s work as lead sculptor for Dayton’s/Macy’s exhibits is of particular note. Over a 16-year period, he assisted in the design of 25 large-scale narrative installations (in a 13,000 square foot space), directing the creation of approximately 1100 sculptures. He collaborated with such notables as author Tomie dePaola, Liccy Dahl (for whom he designed sculptures that are permanently on display at the Roald Dahl Museum in Buckinghamshire, England) and Sesame Street’s Jim Martin and Tim Lagasse.
He’s also been featured in over 40 public collections, and by several media outlets including KARE 11, Minneapolis Star Tribune, St. Paul Pioneer Press, FM 107.7 Radio “The Ian and Marjorie Show” and Midwest Home magazine. Dan has received grants and awards in juried competitions through the years. In 2008, he received “Best of Show-Painting” at the national juried Uptown Art Festival. He is currently represented nationally by several galleries including Aesthetics, Inc. in San Diego, CA and American Art Resources Gallery in Houston, TX.

Dan has been offering instruction in his studio for over 14 years. He teaches both painting and drawing in a community ed format. His teaching experience also includes work with the following institutions: University of Minnesota, Minneapolis College of Art and Design, Lulea Tekniska Universitet, Skelleftea, Sweden, Minneapolis Institute of Art, Minnetonka Center for the Arts, Edina Art Center and Minnesota Museum of American Art. Dan holds an MFA from the University of Minnesota.
