Powder Room – BEFORE

An ordinary, practical space doesn’t have to stay that way. Even in a small space, you can dress things up. In this powder room, we used a dramatic flair and special touches to beautify the space. Since the powder room is also a space guests use, it’s a nice place to make a statement.

The previous wallcovering was outdated and didn’t match the elegant designs we’d done in the rest of the house. The cabinet wasn’t entirely functional, and with the clutter visible, more of an eyesore.

Butts Bath After 1We changed the space with a custom vanity, new wallcovering, lighting, mirror and artwork, as well as changing the floor and toilet. Now when you walk in, it’s no longer average, but a bold, beautiful bathroom.

Our client chose a luxurious hand-crafted brown wallcovering with a gold shimmer finish, which took special care to install. The warm, rich color works in the small bathroom. A contrasting light floor, toilet and vanity add brightness, and removing the cabinet over the toilet also opened up the room.

The vanity, custom-ordered from a vendor in the Laguna Niguel Design Center, has a shaped granite top. The sink is a scalloped design, which makes a lovely feminine touch. Storage below keeps bathroom clutter out of site.

A new mirror, light fixture, and hardware add to the polished look. We mixed metal finishes – which some get nervous about, but just like color, it works when you have the right balance.

Butts Bath After 3The artwork on the walls was chosen especially for the homeowner. The tulips are by an artist in NYC who manipulates photographs with color. They enhance the brightness of the space, and the mixed-media piece, a depiction of actress Grace Kelly done by a Laguna Beach artist, adds an air of femininity and whimsy. We chose custom framing for both pieces.

Our client is enjoying her brand new, fancier space, and it’s one she can feel proud to share with guests.
