How to Make Every Day a Vacation

Do you wish you could feel that same sense of peace, that release of pressure that you get when you’re on vacation, in your everyday life? You could do this in your own home by creating elements of what we like to call “staycation style.”

What does this mean? Well, if you’ve ever decided to forego the long travel and stay home during your time off, you are on a staycation. It’s fun to discover new things about the very town you live in. And it’s even better to take the time to relax and enjoy your home. So often we spend little time in it besides performing utilitarian tasks like cleaning, eating, and sleeping.

For example, our owner Julie Ann has taken on several long-term interior design projects in both Florida and California. Since we are based in Minnesota, this meant she temporarily lived in vacation suites while working on these projects. The beautiful beach settings gave her that sense of peace and less stress, even on the job.

To create this “staycation style” every day, try some of these tips in your home:

  • Add a water fountain to your main gathering area for soothing sounds.
  • Place silk (or real) tropical floral arrangements around the house.
  • Add candles for instant ambiance, or, if you have a fireplace, light a fire and cozy up with blankets on chilly nights.
  • Fill your home with artwork that reminds you of your favorite places. They can even be dream locations that you have yet to visit. Often times when we surround ourselves with our dreams, they eventually come true. This is the law of attraction.
  • Spice up your outdoor space through landscaping and gardening.

If you need help finding your perfect “staycation style” book a Feng Shui consultation with us. In the meantime, here are a few examples of accessories from both Julie Ann and Margie’s homes, as well as a client’s home, that can make your home feel like a vacation retreat.
