3 Tips for the Best Laundry & Mud Room Design

Laundry and mud rooms are utilitarian spaces, but that doesn’t mean that they have to look the part! Because they’re the place where families likely enter the home most often these days, it’s important that they be functional, organized, and attractive. Their design should not only look good, but the space should feel good to be in.

Blend beauty and purpose in your laundry and mud room design with these tips:

  1. Stray from the norm. Instead of an afterthought, make your laundry/mud room atypical with upgraded materials, fun colors, special artwork and unique accent pieces that lift your spirits.
  2. Make it cohesive. Blend the look and feel with that of the rest of the home to ensure a seamless transition from room to room. Coordinate colors, flooring and overall aesthetic.
  3. Build it in. Be thoughtful about what you want to store and where, for the utmost convenience. Build in even a little extra space than you need for a growing family, and design with the idea of what you will use the space for – sporting goods, seasonal items, hobbies/crafting, etc. Cabinets with pull out drawers and bins hide things out of site for a streamlined look.

Most importantly, make your laundry/mud room a space you want to come home to again and again.
