Klecker’s Laundry & Mud Room
After installing a beautiful new wood floor in our longtime clients, the Klecker’s main level, we moved on to the redesign of a space that often gets overlooked – the laundry/mud room. We paid special attention to make the design pleasing – although a utilitarian space, it’s also the place the family mainly enters the home, and it’s important to have a feel-good space to enter. The laundry room/mud room is now updated, playful and pet friendly for the family.
This high traffic area had the same ceramic tile that was problematic in other parts of the main level, because of some cracking issues. To lay a fresh foundation, we installed durable and stylish porcelain plank tiles from a great line of tile we offer. We upgraded the countertops from laminate to a soft cream quartz, which adds a lux element. The walls were painted a coordinating soft neutral, and artwork was hung for pops of color, to add life and personality to the space.
We had the self portrait of their daughter Sarah and dog Mudge custom framed, which made the piece stand out. A custom mirror hung on the angled wall expands the space, with a matching mint green double frame accent. Additionally, “Sunflowers,” a piece by Udi Merioz was hung in the space, to help pull color around the room and add cheerfulness.
The bowed cornice board window treatment, upholstered in custom fabric, also works to tie things together with its fun, colorful pattern. A leather bench grounds the space and offers a handy place to sit or set things by the door.
Before, the family had cubbies for storage. While somewhat functional they did not offer the clean, streamlined look the new cabinets do. Less “stuff” visible is easier on the eye. Not pictured here (off the laundry/mud room) is a large walk-in closet with new storage pieces too.
The new design blends effortlessly with the updates we’ve made in the rest of the main level. It says something about the Klecker family’s personality and makes a beautiful welcome home.
