Although the living space and lifestyle of this new Southdale apartment fit our client’s needs, the furniture and décor in it did not. Mary had just moved from a big house, and recently downsized. The furniture she brought with her was not working, and the space just didn’t feel right. It was too dark, and felt heavy. She longed for the refreshing, light feeling of coastal style.
We helped Mary create a fresh design for the space with new furniture and accessories, along with some of her own. Bringing in coastal design, even in certain parts of your home, can bring a little vacation into your living space. It can create a nice respite for Midwesterners, who live far from the coast.
In Mary’s condo, we carried the theme throughout. We worked with some of her existing pieces, plus art and photos from her travels.
Her deep-colored floral sofa was replaced with a light-colored one of the same size, which has a beautiful texture. We found imported antique etched cocktail tables to accompany it, along with a new upholstered chair. Accent pillows and an ottoman with a fun custom fabric help tie in the soft teal and vibrant orange accent colors. The artwork over the new dining room table is a variation on the pattern.
Also new, and with a much lighter, beachside feel, the entertainment center features bamboo detail. Above the armoire, a custom floral arrangement has shells in it. Glass accent pieces and details on a lamp merge color and softness.
We added a mirror to open and brighten the entry. A patterned area rug enlivens the area, and plays off the coastal theme.
In her new space, Mary can now feel free to relax and enjoy her surroundings.
I hired Julie Ann at Metro Interiors to help me make the transition to a significantly smaller living space, having recently sold my 4-bedroom, 2-story home and downsized to a rental apartment. Julie Ann was extremely helpful in selecting which pieces of furniture I should keep, what new pieces I should acquire and how the old and new could be integrated together and complemented with wall art, rugs and other decorative items to complete the look I was going for.
Julie Ann and her team were easy to work with, respectful of my tastes and have always had excellent follow up with the status of my orders and in answering questions. They also offer Feng Shui advice, which I found very helpful in the rearrangement of existing pieces I had to make my rooms feel more hospitable. I would not hesitate to recommend Julie and her team to anyone seeking professional design services.
